Shinkafi, Zamfara State – By Prime Brief Media
A precision airstrike by the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma disrupted a high-level meeting of terrorist commanders in Shinkafi, Zamfara State, killing several insurgents and dealing a significant blow to the coordination capacity of armed groups in the region.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the operation in a statement on Friday, describing it as the culmination of detailed intelligence work. According to military spokesman Major General Michael Onoja, the gathering was convened to plan coordinated attacks on communities and security installations in the area.
"Based on credible intelligence, our air platforms tracked and engaged the location. Multiple commanders were neutralised, and the survivors scattered in disarray. This is a major disruption to their operational planning," Onoja said.
The strike targeted a remote location where the terrorist leaders had assembled. Surveillance indicated the meeting included commanders from cells operating across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states. The military said battle damage assessment confirmed the elimination of key figures, though exact identities are being verified.
The Shinkafi area has been one of the most volatile axes in Zamfara, with armed groups using its forested terrain as a staging ground for raids, kidnappings, and highway attacks. The disruption of the commanders' meeting is expected to degrade the groups' ability to launch coordinated operations in the near term.
The Chief of Air Staff commended the pilots and ground intelligence teams for the precision of the strike and reiterated the Air Force's commitment to supporting ground operations across all theatres.
