Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully rescued six women and children, including a three-month-old baby, from the clutches of suspected Boko Haram terrorists during a clearance operation in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State. The Defence Headquarters confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that three suspected terrorist collaborators were also arrested during the operation.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Edward Buba, the rescue operation was conducted on Tuesday following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists and their captives. "Troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion staged a tactical ambush along a known terrorist transit route. On sighting the troops, the terrorists fled, abandoning their captives. Six women and children, including a three-month-old infant, were rescued unharmed," the statement read. The troops also recovered food supplies, clothing, and mobile phones abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.

The rescued victims have been handed over to the Borno State Emergency Management Agency for medical evaluation and psychosocial support before being reunited with their families. The three arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation and have provided information that is aiding ongoing operations in the area, military sources said.

The successful rescue underscores the continued pressure being applied on terrorist groups in the North-East theatre, even as ISWAP and Boko Haram remnants continue to stage sporadic attacks. The Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shuaibu, commended the troops for their gallantry and urged communities to continue providing timely intelligence. The military has intensified patrols and ambush operations along known terrorist supply and escape routes.
