Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The United States Africa Command has confirmed that it conducted additional precision airstrikes against Islamic State targets in northeastern Nigeria on Sunday, extending the military pressure on the terror group following the recent decapitation of its leadership structure.

In a statement issued on Monday, AFRICOM spokesperson Commander Kelly Cahalan said the strikes were carried out in full coordination with the Nigerian government and targeted ISIS hideouts and logistics hubs in the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin. "The operation was successful. Battle damage assessment indicates multiple terrorist positions were destroyed. No U.S. or Nigerian personnel were injured or killed," the statement read.

The strikes are the latest in a series of coordinated actions between Washington and Abuja, which last week resulted in the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the ISIS global deputy leader and a Nigerian national. The Trump administration has signalled a more kinetic approach to counterterrorism in West Africa, with President Donald Trump describing the region as an "emerging frontline" in the fight against ISIS.

Nigeria's Defence Headquarters has welcomed the renewed American support. "This is the kind of partnership that yields results. We are taking the fight to the terrorists, and they are feeling the pressure," a senior military official told Prime Brief Media.

The strikes come as the Nigerian military itself intensifies operations across the North-East, with airstrikes and ground offensives targeting insurgent camps. The combination of domestic and international pressure is seen by analysts as a potentially decisive moment in the long-running insurgency, though they caution that the terror groups retain significant capacity.
