Lagos, Lagos State – By Prime Brief Media
The Victor Ikpeba 5-A-Side football tournament, one of Nigeria's most prestigious grassroots competitions, has announced a significant increase in its prize pool, with total prizes now reaching N1 million and the winners set to take home N500,000.
The tournament, founded by former Super Eagles striker and 1997 African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba, has grown steadily since its inception, attracting teams from across the country. It is designed to provide a competitive platform for young, unsigned footballers to showcase their talents and potentially catch the eye of scouts.
"I am passionate about giving back to the game that gave me everything. This tournament is about discovering the next generation of Nigerian stars. We are increasing the stakes because we want to attract the very best talent," Ikpeba said.
The 2026 edition is scheduled to take place in Lagos later this year, with registration opening in the coming weeks. Past participants have gone on to sign for clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League and abroad.
Prime Brief Media will provide further updates on team performances and competition standings throughout the season.
