Nollywood has started June on a strong note, with several locally produced films dominating the Nigerian box office and outperforming Hollywood releases.

According to box office data, new entries Scary Movie 6 and Deep Water took fifth and sixth positions, while Mortal Kombat II placed eighth, showing Nollywood's growing momentum in the local market.

Earlier in June, the romance drama Call of My Life grossed N498 million at the West African box office, becoming one of the top 10 highest‑grossing Nollywood films of all time and the highest‑grossing Nollywood film of 2026 so far. The film, produced by BluHouse Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, maintained its position as the number one movie of the weekend for four consecutive weekends.

The highly anticipated Iwe Ala (The Book of Dreams), directed by Adeoluwa Owu and starring Mercy Aigbe, Eniola Ajao, Dele Odule, and Farooq Oreagba, is set for release on June 12. The film, inspired by the iconic Ojude Oba festival, is expected to draw large audiences.

Industry analysts attribute Nollywood's success to improved production quality, strategic marketing, and audience preference for local stories. Cinema owners have reported increased ticket sales for Nollywood films.
