The Benue State chapter of the PDP has condemned the killings of Prof. Gabriel Nyityo, his younger brother, and former SSG Prof. David Salifu, calling for urgent measures to tackle insecurity.
MAKURDI, BENUE STATE – July 10, 2026
The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the recent killings of Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo, his younger brother Iorngee John Nyityo, and former Benue State Secretary to the Government, Prof. David Salifu, describing the incidents as painful reminders of the worsening security situation in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the State Publicity Secretary, Bright Yima Antyo, the opposition party expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Benue State University community, friends and associates of the victims.
The party said the continued loss of lives in Benue highlights the urgent need for decisive measures to address insecurity.
According to the statement, condolences alone are insufficient, stressing that residents expect practical actions that will protect lives and property.
The PDP maintained that Benue should not become a place where citizens, including academics, farmers, students and public servants, live under constant fear of violent attacks.
The party called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, support community-based security initiatives, ensure perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted, and provide assistance to families affected by the attacks.
It urged the government to move from reactive responses to proactive strategies capable of preventing future incidents.
The PDP said it stands with the people of Benue in demanding justice for Prof. Gabriel Nyityo, Iorngee John Nyityo, Prof. David Salifu, and other victims of insecurity across the state.
The statement concluded by calling for renewed commitment to restoring peace and security in Benue.
The Benue State Government had not responded to the PDP's statement as of the time of filing this report.
